Layers, Layers and More Layers!

Anyone who follows the fashion world at all knows that layered accessories are very popular this year. Whether you layer on a bunch of necklaces or bracelets, you can’t go wrong. It’s a fun trend too, allowing you to pull out 5 or 6 necklaces from your collection, wear them together and be on the edge of fashion! It’s a simple trend too, there really isn’t much you can do to mess up this fashion must-do. Just don’t go overboard- there is such thing as too many – you don’t want to have a hard time holding your head up because your necklaces are too heavy! Fashion and its accessories have a sort of split personality this year. On one end, they are super feminine and soft while the urban, edgy style of the 80′s is making a new impression. Mixing unexpected elements together like metal chains and soft pearls can give you a fantastic look for any time of day. Check out some of these examples I found on the web:

Sarah Jessica Parker

One of my favorite fashion inspirations – Sarah Jessica Parker – went bold on this necklace ensemble. She paired some simple chains in golds and silvers, all different sizes and lengths with a couple chunkier pieces up by her neck. Paired with her simple shimmery outfit, her layered necklaces are the perfect accessory! So, if she can be any example for those of you out there wanting to try out this look – go bold!

Hillary Duff

In this photo, Hillary Duff shows the perfect union of edgy and feminine. She has on an urban, shimmery black mini dress but layered on a bunch of beautiful strands of white pearls in all different sizes and lengths. This adds a classy and feminine touch to a rock star outfit. The lesson here is – don’t be afraid to mix styles, you might be pleased with the result!

Layered Pearls

This is a great example of a necklace you might be able to find in stores or online. This has some beautiful black pearls paired with black beads and a crystal flower detail. This necklace would look great paired with some long metal chains worn with a collared shirt to the office or a simple dress for a night on the town.

It’s award season again in Hollywood and there is no better time to scope out what the hottest celebs are wearing on the red carpet. This is the time of year they get all glammed up and don their best gowns and accessories. Some celebrities hit it big wearing the latest fashion trends while others are a huge red carpet flop. While most of us don’t have such fancy places to go on a regular basis, we can still take some style tips from the A-listers. The Golden Globes kicked off the award season on January 17th and the hottest trends in jewelry were all over the place. Check out some of these celebrities’ fantastic earrings they wore to this year’s Golden Globes:

Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin was spot on with her chandelier earrings. Huge, dangling, sparkly earrings are hot this season. They look great with short hair or an updo and are a great statement to add to any glamorous outfit.

Kate Hudson

These long, dangling white pearl tassel earrings that Kate Hudson wore with her gorgeous white gown were my favorite of the whole evening. They went perfectly with her side-swept updo. Her earrings were beautiful, sophisticated and made a big statement!

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde of “House” was the picture of glamorous sophistication on the red carpet. Black seems to be all the rage in both fashion and accessories. She wore a beautiful black dress that she paired perfectly with black onyx drop earrings. They were simple, yet gorgeous!

Remember – when shopping for a pair of earrings like these celebs, BIGGER IS BETTER! Go big, go bold and you are sure to make a statement that everyone will notice.

Pearls have been around for longer than pretty much any other gemstone. Not only have they been highly regarded in ancient societies but they are a big part of classic Hollywood as well. Celebrities today still don pearls on the red carpets and in everyday wear. There are some celebrities of past however that are just synonymous with pearls. They single handedly created an image that lives on in today’s pop culture.

Audrey Hepburn

One of these well-known celebrities is Audrey Hepburn. Her classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s pose in her black dress and pearls is the definition of Hollywood beauty. She was a huge movie star but still had that girl next door charm. Audrey Hepburn in her pearl jewelry made one of the biggest statements in old Hollywood. Women everywhere looked up to her as a fashion inspiration. Audrey Hepburn helped to keep the classic pearl look at the height of fashion and beauty.

Jackie O

When it comes to classic beauty, no one can top Jackie Kennedy. She was the woman and mother everyone adored and wanted to be. She may have been the First Lady but she represented every woman and mother in the United States. She was classic, sophisticated yet humble and down to earth. This photo of her with John Kennedy Jr. epitomizes Jackie O’s life. It showed that you can still be a mother and First Lady and still manage to be stylish! Jackie could always be seen around town in her big sunglasses and white pearls.

When you mention old Hollywood style and classic beauty, how can you not mention Marilyn Monroe? She was the woman every man wanted and every woman wanted to be. She was the definition of sexuality and beauty with a sleek and sophisticated look. This is a classic photo of Marilyn wearing a fur stole and pearls.
